According to activists and residents, the deaths were as a result of Russian and Syrian air bombardment of their rebel-held neighbourhoods.

Rescue groups on Thursday rep[orted that Russia raids killed 13 injuring at least 25 cross several areas including Bustan al-Qasr and Sakhour.

Aleppo has been a battlefield for six years in a row, with opposition controlling east of it while government control the west.

On Wednesday, at least 86 Syrians were killed in Aleppo in attacks on markets and residential neighbourhoods according to the Local Coordination Committees (LCC), a grassroots group of activists recording details of attacks.

On Wednesday, Russian state television ran pictures of civilians and fighters leaving the city through so-called humanitarian corridors

President Bashar al-Assad said on Friday that Aleppo must be “cleaned” by the Syrian army as activists in rebel-held areas reported more than 150 civilians killed in a week of heavy bombardment by Syrian and Russian aircraft.

In an interview with the Russian tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda, Assad justified his actions in Syria’s second city as “a very important springboard” to pushing “terrorists” back to Turkey.
