The Cabinet Secretary of Education, Dr. Fred Matiangi has directed all teachers to remain out of schools during the examination season starting from November 1st to November 30th 2016.
This is contained in a joint Press Statement issued by the Cabinet Secretaries of Education Dr Fred Matiang’i, Interior and Coordination of National Government Major Gen (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery and of Information, Communications and Technology Mr Joe Mucheru.
Teachers involved in the administration of practical subjects and boarding facilities, however, will be allowed to be within the school.
This, according to the CS will help mitigate exam irregularities with all schools expected to close by today, Friday, October 28th, nationwide so as to allow a the conducive environment for pupils and students who will be seating for their national examinations.
The Communique was issued today after meeting senior officials Interior and Coordination of National Government and their counterparts in education from all the 47 Counties at the School of Adventure on the Slopes of Mt Kenya in Meru County.
“We are determined to stamp out cases of irregularities associated with the poor management of our national examinations in the past so that the results obtained from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) are valid and credible,” the joint statement read in part.
Major Gen (Rtd) Nkaissery said the government was determined to restore the integrity of the country’s national examination system to ensure, among other things, that Kenyans get quality education and credible examinations results to be able to compete globally.
Mr Mucheru said the Government integrated ICT to minimise examinations malpractices that characterised last year’s national examination, noting that CCTV have been put in strategic sites to help detect whatever mischief that unscrupulous people may want to do.
The means among others, that all student who are not examinations candidates are expected, without exception, to be allowed to go home for holidays
