Pombe Magufuli receives 21-gun salute on his arrival

The Tanzania president, John Pombe Joseph Magufuli was received at State House in Nairobi today on October 31st, with 21-gun salute. This is his first visit to Kenya since his election in October 2015.

The Tanzania President, Dr. John Pombe Magufuli arrives in Kenya for two-day visit.

The visit is at the invitation of President Uhuru Kenyatta. The two presidents after the 21-gun salute proceeded to one–on–one talks, then bilateral talks  with media expected to be briefed later.

During his two-day visit,  on Tuesday, November 1st, President Magufuli will officially open the Southern Bypass in Nairobi as well as visit a dairy farm in Karen.

State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said  the President’s visit offers Kenya a chance to renew and deepen our partnership in a number of fields.

The two Heads of Government will discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest at the bilateral and regional level.

“Our focus will be on the areas in which there already has been consultation, and where we can expect concrete results to be announced,” said State House Spokesperson.

A number of issues will be discussed, among them work permit fees charged to Kenyan nationals, as well as the high university fees charged to Kenyan nationals.

Among them will also be discussions on non-tariff barriers between both countries. Additionally, key among the discussions will include operation of tour vans across our common borders.
