By Sunday, two more bodies were retrieved from the collapsed building in Kisii town.
This raised the number of confirmed deaths to nine.
This was the second incidence within this year after another building collapsed in Huruma.
The building collapsed on Thursday morning.
According to reports, the building had been condemned by the national agency in charge of construction and inspection.
“The building had been condemned but the contractor went ahead extending floors,” complained Secretary, National Building Inspectorate (NBI) Moses Nyakiongora.
The building in question had been approved up to the third floor.
More than 40 people, among them seven children, were injured.
Over six people were admitted at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Hospital CEO Dr Ondari Otieno said 17 were treated and discharged.
More people were believed to be trapped under the rubble.
