The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) principal Raila Odinga has vehemently warned the Independ Electoral and Boundaries Commissioners (IEBC) not to try monkey business on voter registration and auditing.
Responding to journalists at a presser today afternoon, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader said that the focus of the opposition is fair, credible and transparent general elections.
Raila further called for a stoppage in awarding of tenders by the IEBC team that should have already eft the office adding that the call to have a new team by 23rd December this year should be responded to.
“Elections should be carried out in fairness, the election process should be transparent,” said the CORD leader Raila Odinga. “We don’t want to drag Kenya where it was on 2007, and again we do not want to be comprehended to go back to the streets.”
“We are not ready to go back to Israel. And for elections to be peaceful, there should be fairness and transparency in voter registration process.
While blaming IEBC officials for carelessness in report auditing, issuance of tenders and plans to set platform for 2017 rigging elections, CORD has tabled various demands as a way of ensuring that free and fair elections are carried out in 2017.
Cord demands that he already fired IEBC team leaves the office, stops issuing tenders with the new team brought to service by the end of 23 December this year.
The opposition further wants a fresh audit of votes to be carried out by a reputable firm that should be publicly declared to avoid creating the tension of malpractice.
Upon fresh audit of the votes, CORD demands that the voters should be put in the portal where the public can access them.
