Kenya Methodist University women’s football team has been disbanded ahead of this weekend’s women’s Premiere League.

KeMU were to debut in the top tier after finishing top in the last year’s women’s Division 1 after unbeaten run. According to the source who sought anonymity, the development is due to internal wrangles.

It’s unfortunate the players will not feature in the premier league as they had wished. The players had sacrificed a lot and put in a lot of effort to ensure they emerge tops in the division 1 league and now that they have, somebody has worked around the clock to see the players drams dreams go down the drain as reported by the source.

The source added, “KeMU has rich talent that has continued to churn players to the national team and really, its regrettable that these players will now have to look for other clubs to join.”

Samantha Akeya, Maurine Ater, Cheris Avila, Lily Awuor, Neddy Atieno and Esse Akida are the current players in the national team from KeMU. Reached for comment, a player who sought anonymity said it’s sad the university will not be part of the league. The player said as much as there are other clubs to join, it will take time for them to get a nod.

“Why would you disband a winning outfit. We have worked as a team to reach where we are and we were looking forward to make a repeat performance of last year. However, I guess we will have to do it from somewhere else,” said the player, adding: “I hope we will get an opening from other clubs since we want to build on what we had started at KeMU.”

Teams that will feature in the league include Spedag, Mombasa Olympic, Makoladers, Old is Gold, Thika Queens and Soccer Queens, Others are—Gaspo Youth, Soccer Sisters, Vihiga Queens, Nyamira County Starlets, Wadadia FC, Baringo County Starlets, Oserian FC, Eldoret Falcons, Vihiga Leeds.
