Doctors ordered to resume to work or get fired

Th strike by Kenya doctors seeking the implementation of 2013 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) has been dealt a huge blow following a government order.

Through the Ministry of health, that is headed by Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Cleopa Mailu. the government ordered the doctors to resume to work by Wednesday or risk losing their jobs.

Addressing the press at Council of Governors headquarters in Nairobi, the CS noted that the government had offered the medic practitioners 40% salary increment after striking a deal that they will continue with the talks later.

“We are willing to deliver full CBA within 60-90 days but in absence of negotiations following doctors refusal is making it hard,” said the Health CS.

“No CBA can see daylight without considering the existence of county governments which have employed up to 80 percent of the doctors,”  he added.

The governors, through their Chairman Peter Munya, and Health Cabinet Secretary, Dr Cleopa Mailu,  they signaled a possibility of sacking them and advertising for their positions.

“We need suffering of Kenyans to end and that is why we have taken this stand,” said Munya.

“You cannot call people for negotiations then they keep saying CBA. This CBA is not in accordance with the law. Even courts have said that,” added Munya.
