A confident former deputy speaker says Azimio will win by a landslide, win majority seats in NEP

Wiper deputy party leader Farah Maalim is confident that the Azimio coalition will win the august 9th General Elections by more than 65 percent in the presidential election.

The former deputy speaker further expressed optimism that the coalition will win majority of the seats in North Eastern.

Maalim who was speaking in Garissa town during a meeting that brought together all nine sub clans of the Awlihan community and which was meant to endorse Nasir Mohamed Dolal as the sole candidate for the Garissa township parliamentary seat said that Kenya Kwanza has no support in the region.

“As a region we have already made up our minds to support his excellency Raila Odinga for presidency. As leaders we will go to each corner of our respective constituencies and campaign for him as we campaign for ourselves and make sure that he gets more than 80 percent of our votes,” said Maalim.

Maalim who is seeking the Dadaab parliamentary seat said that the education, livestock, water, infrastructure, issuance of ID cards and empowerment of the youth and women were things that hold dear to the residents and which Odinga has promised to give priority once he assumes office.

“Our competitors from Kenya Kwanza should stop wasting their time campaigning and looking for votes in North Eastern because the truth is they wont get any. I want to appeal to the residents not be hoodwinked by those empty  promises that are not realistic. Our people are very fast and can differentiate between a liars and ones who really mean well for them,” said Maalim.

The region has become a battle ground for the two leading presidential aspirants with Ruto being the latest to hold town hall meetings and rallies in the expansive region two weeks ago. Raila is also expected to embark on a tour of the region this week.

Maalim in contested for the Garissa township parliamentary seat in 2017 but lost to incident Aden Duale urged his community to remain united and rally behind Dolal to stand any chance of beating Duale.

Dolal who is commonly known as ‘Jofle’ and who is contesting for the seat on an ODM ticket expressed optimism of winning the seat that he narrowly lost to Duale in 2013.

“I have come a long way as far as trying to capture this seat is concerned. I want to sincerely thank my community and the people of Garissa for standing with me throughout my journey. I humbly request that we walk this journey together until we win the seat,” said Dolal.

Dolal said that with the support from his community intact, he will now embark on seeking support from other communities residing in the constituency considering that Garissa was a cosmopolitan town.
