A Leader’s  Plea for Redemption: Beatrice Elachi’s Prayer at the National Prayers Breakfast

The National Prayer Breakfast took place at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on May 28, 2025. This annual event, themed “Rise and Rebuild,” aimed to unite Kenya’s leaders across political, religious, and ethnic lines through prayer, seeking reconciliation and fostering national unity.

It serves as a platform for dialogue and reflection, promoting ethical leadership and shared values to guide Kenya towards peace, justice, and prosperity.

During the event, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi delivered a prayer, addressing various national issues such as corruption, poor infrastructure, and social media’s influence on youth.

“We changed laws, we compromised our gates. Our airways were closed because they didn’t belong there. Our airports, our waters, our boundaries. We have loved money beyond it Father, that we can sell our nation at any given time,” said  Beatrice.

Her prayer sought forgiveness for past failures and guidance for future actions, emphasizing the need for leaders to prioritize the country’s well-being over personal gain.

“Father, we pray for forgiveness. Father we corrupted ourselves. We had become a lust to materialism. We have forgotten you’re the giver of all wealth in this world and Father we confess as leaders that you gave us privilege and we took as our right,” prayed Beatrice.

Public reaction on X (formerly Twitter) was mixed. Some users criticized Elachi’s focus on social media as a problem, questioning its relevance to broader issues like poor roads and healthcare. Others found the prayer insincere, suggesting that actions, not prayers, were needed for real change.

The event’s purpose of fostering unity and reflection was acknowledged, but scepticism about its impact persisted, with calls for tangible repentance and accountability from leaders.

Overall, the prayer breakfast highlighted the ongoing tension between spiritual reflection and the demand for practical solutions to Kenya’s challenges.
