Delegates from 38 dioceses will arrive in Nairobi on Thursday to pick the leader of Anglican Church of Kenya(ACK) after Archbishop Eliud Wabukala led his final mass last Sunday.They will then attend a church service at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi from 8.30am on Friday,20th May before casting their vote.
Lawyer Tom Onyango will oversee the process assisted by other three chancellors.He said that they are doing rehearsals mid this week with those who will assist in the voting with an aim to have a flawless process that meets the expectations of all the candidates.
The six candidates namely Bishops Moses Masamba (Mbeere), James Ochiel (South Nyanza), Julius Wanyoike (Thika), Joseph ole Sapit (Kericho), Joel Waweru (Nairobi) and Lawrence Dena (Malindi) are expected to arrive on Thursday evening to acquaint themselves with the rules and procedure.
Being the final lap, all the candidates were yesterday in a mad rush to reach out to delegates on the phone with some planning to meet and try to rally them on their side once they get to Nairobi,moments before voting.
Bishop Wabukala retires after seven years at the helm of the church.He was enthroned at the All Saints’ Cathedral, Nairobi, on July 5, 2009, having taken over from The Most Reverend Benjamin Nzimbi.
