A six storey building collapse in Huruma

The nation awoke to the sad news of the collapse of a 6 storey building in Huruma that took the lives of 12 people and left hundreds of casualties in its wake. President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the site and directed the county government to be vigilant in ensuring all buildings are standardized and further asked the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to ensure all culprits involved are arrested.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry reiterated that those responsible shall be brought to justice and further said that a directive shall be issued next week in regards to the buildings marked for demolition.

Lands Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi accompanied by Devolution Principle Secretary said the government will provide relief support in terms of food and asked Kenyans to follow government directives on where to construct houses.

Residents of huruma have asked their representatives to forward cases of substandard buildings since they report them with no action being taken.
