A two-year-old girl died after the house she was sleeping in caught fire this morning at Majengo estate in Narok County.

According to eyewitness Samuel Mukuwa, it was about 8.am today when he saw a dark smoke coming from the house, and after visiting the scene, he found the house on fire.

He said he met some people trying to put off the fire and few hours later, the fire extinguisher engine arrived and helped to put off the fire.

When the fire went off, Mukuwa said everything in the house had been burnt and the two-year-old baby who was a sleep had been burnt beyond recognition.

Confirming the incident, Narok North Sub County Police Commander Frederick Siundu said the mother had left the child in the house with a candle burning, to seek a casual job in town when the fire occurred.

He condoled with the family but asked residents to be cautious when leaving their children behind asking them to leave them under the care of an adult.

The police boss said the value of the property destroyed in the iron sheet made house is yet to be established.

The body of the deceased was taken to Narok county referral hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting postmortem.
