NAIROBI, 28 MARCH 2018, (PSCU) — President Uhuru Kenyatta today presided over the swearing in of Kenya’s new Attorney General and new Director of Public Prosecutions.
The President also presided over the swearing in of three Chief Administrative Secretaries and five Principal Secretaries.
Justice Paul Kihara Kariuiki took oath of office to become independent Kenya’s seventh Attorney General at a ceremony held at State House, Nairobi, and also attended by Deputy President William Ruto.
Noordin Mohamed Haji, who was previously deputy director of the National Intelligence Service, was sworn in as the Director of Public Prosecutions. He becomes the second holder of the office since the promulgation of the new Constitution.
Those who were sworn in as Chief Administrative Secretaries included Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi (Environment and Forestry), Hassan Noor Hassan (Sports and Heritage) and Eng John Kipngetich Mosonik (Petroleum and Mining).
The five PSs who took the oath of office included Alfred Kipkorir Cheruiyot (Correctional Services), Jerome Okoth Ochieng (ICT and Innovation), Harry Kimtai Kachuwai (Livestock), John Morangi Omenge (Mining) and Susan Jemtai Koech (EAC Integration and Northern Corridor Development).
President Kenyatta congratulated the officials and assured them he would work closely with them to enable the Government to achieve its promises to Kenyans especially the Big Four plan to spur Kenya’s growth.
He urged them to safeguard public resources that are entrusted to the dockets under their control and to ensure that they uphold all rules of integrity.
“You have been placed in positions of authority and respect but you have to earn that respect by the manner in which you exercise your role,” said the President. “Ensure that resources entrusted to you are used in the best interest of the public.”
Besides the oath of office, all the officials also read and signed oaths of integrity and accountability.
