Al-Shabaab militia group planning some attacks ~ Boinnet

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet through National Police Spokesman George, yesterday warned that Al – Shabaab are planning for some attacks.

Applauding the work done by police and Kenya Defence Forces in thwarting the terror groups, Boinnet said that Al-Shabaab remains the top in the list as key terror group despite the existence of others like ISIS.

“Of these groups, Al-Shabaab remains a major threat,” Josseph Boinnet said through a statement sent to the newsroom.

“Available information shows that the ISIS still continue to target our youths for recruitment online, but elaborate efforts have been employed to deal with the attempts of the group to indoctrinate our youth.”

The statement further noted that the militia group, Al Shabaab is splitting into smaller groups as a fighting tactic trying to penetrate to the interior so that they can launch an attack.

“In our effort to outwit our security agencies, Al-Shabaab militants are now making an attempt to change tact by splitting into smaller groups and infiltrating into the country, especially along border areas of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu Countries,” the statement further read.

The IG, however, assured that they will do everything it takes to make sure that the Al-Shabaab are barred from carrying out any attack.

In addition, Joseph Boinnet has also noted that ISIS, a fundamentalist group based in the Middle East, has been targeting Kenyan youth for recruitment in online campaigns.

“Daesh, also known as ISIS is equally among our major concern…but elaborate efforts have been deployed to deal with the attempts of the group to indoctrinate our youths,” read the statement issued by the National Police Spokesman George Kinoti for the IG Boinnet.
