All class one pupils to get free tablets by next month

Education PS Belio Kipsang’ has stated that they are devoted to ensuring that all standard one pupils in the remaining over 22,000 primary schools will be issued with tablets by June.He said the digital literacy programme recently launched in 150 primary schools would be fully rolled out this year.

Director-General of Education Leah Rotich who read his speech on his behalf added that the ministry is working with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to realign the syllabus with the country’s socio-economic and technological needs.

She said the new curriculum would incorporate talent and development studies as opposed to the current focus on grades.

She said the government had allocated Sh32 billion for the free day secondary education programme, to benefit over 2.6 million students.Ms.Rotich said that this would relieve Kenyan parents of the burden of paying school fees.
