All systems are set for the swearing in of Embu governor-elect Cecily Mbarire after successful preparations by the assumption of governor’s office committee.
Speaking to KNA, County Secretary Johnson Nyaga who is also the chair of the transition committee, said that the committee on assumption of governor’s office has already completed the preparations for a smooth transition and swearing-in ceremony.
`Nyaga added that apart from completing the exercise successfully, they have already gazetted the swearing in ceremony as required by the law.
“We have already gazetted August 25 as the swearing in ceremony for the governor-elect as required by the law on how transition is supposed to be conducted,” he said.
Nyaga said that the assumption of governor’s office committee consists of National Police Service (NPS), County Commissioner, the Judiciary, Chief officers in charge of different county departments, County Assembly Clerk Officer, County Attorney and two nominees who were later appointed by the governor-elect to ensure a smooth transition.
He further added that the committee was constituted in July which is 30 days before the election to plan for a smooth transition. He said the committee is in the process of distributing invitation cards for the swearing in ceremony and that they are expecting close to 6,000 visitors.
Nyaga said that security arrangements have been properly coordinated by the county commissioner’s office in collaboration with county police commander and county intelligence officer to ensure that there is tight security.
The County Secretary added that there will be proper ground management including frisking of the attendees at the entry and proper traffic management.
He expressed confidence that the event will be peaceful and free from any incidents urging all the attendees to observe Covid-19 measures by putting on masks and sanitizing.
Cecily Mbarire, the former Runyenjes Member of Parliament (MP) got 108,610 votes defeating Lenny Kivuti who garnered 105,246 votes to become the second and first female governor of Embu county. Mbarire will be deputized by Justus Kinywa Mugo.
Other candidates who were eyeing the gubernatorial seat include Development Party (DP) candidate Njage Kumantha who got 1,676 votes and Jubilee Party candidate Emilio Kathuri who garnered 3,870 votes.
