The African National Congress (ANC) has decided to establish a Government of National Unity following careful consideration in the recently concluded NEC meeting.

This Government of National Unity will take into account the current conditions in South Africa.

“This NEC meeting has provided clear direction on the work we must do over the next few days and weeks to establish national and provincial governments that are stable, effective and advance the interests of the South African people as a whole,” noted President Ramaphosa.

The ANC has however invited political parties to participate in forming this government, as they believe it to be the best option for the country.

“We have therefore agreed that we will invite political parties to form a government of National Unity as the best option to move our country forward,” ANC President said.

Key issues to be addressed include job creation, inclusive economic growth, the high cost of living, service delivery, crime, and corruption.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his closing remarks, stated, “The ANC acknowledges that we are at a moment of fundamental consequence in the life of our nation. Our country requires extraordinary leadership and courage to plot a way forward.”

He emphasized the need for broad unity among the people of South Africa and multi-party cooperation to overcome the severe challenges facing the country.

The President also stressed the importance of collective leadership and finding common ground while overcoming differences.

He highlighted the rich history of cooperation across political and ideological divides in establishing a Government of National Unity.

Furthermore, he emphasized the need for national dialogue involving all parties, social partners, and sections of society to discuss ways to develop the country.

“We are committed to ensuring that a Government of National Unity has the means and the ability to build an inclusive economy, create jobs, end corruption, tackle crime and improve the provision of services,” the ANC President said.

President Ramaphosa urged partners to commit to shared values, nation-building, and social cohesion, including respect for the constitution, the rule of law, social justice, equity, human dignity, non-racialism, and non-sexism.

“We must act with speed to safeguard national unity, peace, stability, inclusive economic growth, non-racialism and non-sexism,” he noted.

Additionally, the ANC has briefed its alliance partners on the process and continues to seek their guidance and views.
