Detectives have arrested a key suspect linked to the brutal killing of Kasipul MP, Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was fatally shot on April 30, 2025.

Amos Barasa Kasili was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation in the Kibera Darajani area.

Forensic evidence and surveillance footage have connected him to the crime scene and to the principal suspects in the assassination plot.

Authorities believe Barasa played a critical role in the execution of the attack.

Investigators have established that Barasa was the rider of the motorcycle used by the assailants to trail the MP’s vehicle and later escape the crime scene.

The motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer with registration number KMFZ 413W, was recovered in his possession at the time of arrest.

“It was revealed that Barasa served as the rider of the motorcycle with registration number KMFZ 413W, a Bajaj Boxer, which the assailants used to trail the MP’s vehicle and later as a getaway bike after the attack. Upon his arrest, Barasa was found in possession of the motorcycle in question,” stated the DCI.

CCTV footage obtained from the vicinity of Parliament captured the same motorcycle trailing the MP’s convoy shortly before the fatal shooting.

Barasa is no stranger to law enforcement. According to police reports, he has a long history of criminal activity and is known to pose as a Boda Boda operator while collaborating with armed gangs.

During interrogation, he admitted to being hired by the key suspects involved in the assassination and confessed to receiving Ksh. 50,000 for his role in the operation.

Further profiling revealed that Barasa had previously served time at the Industrial Area Prison, where he is believed to have formed ties with some of the main suspects involved in this orchestrated killing.

“Investigations uncovered that Barasa is a habitual criminal who masquerades as a Boda Boda operator, often collaborating with armed criminal gangs during their operations. During interrogation, he disclosed his involvement in the crime, revealing that he had been engaged by the main actors and received a payment of Ksh. 50,000 as part of his compensation,” noted the detectives.

Authorities are now preparing to arraign Barasa as investigations continue.

The police have reaffirmed their commitment to uncovering the truth behind the assassination and bringing all perpetrators to justice.

Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were’s death has sent shockwaves across the country, with many calling for swift action and thorough accountability.
