Arson victims get support from county government.

Eight families whose houses were torched by arsonists a fortnight ago today received roofing materials from the Siaya county government. Delivering the materials to the victims at Bar Agulu sub location assistant chief’s office, the chief officer for governance and administration Mr. Joseph Omondi Onyango said the county government had delivered a total of 184 iron sheets to enable them re build their houses. Onyango, who represented Siaya governor, Cornel Rasanga said each of the affected families will receive 23 sheets. The chief officer, who was flanked by the South East Alego member of the county assembly, Mr. Joseph Mboha condemned the incident that left the families homeless, adding that all efforts must be made to bring the culprits to book.

Mboha challenged the local community to be in the forefront of fighting insecurity in their midst by volunteering information on suspected criminals to the security agents. He lamented that the arson attack on homes in Kanyibong’ and Agoro Lieye villages was the sixth criminal activity in the area in recent times. “We have had two watchmen killed at Don Koki market, an arson attack that led to death of two children at Ulore village and another arson at Nyajuok” lamented the MCA. Two days ago, Siaya county security team led by county commissioner Mohammed Barre accused the residents of Bar Agulu sub location of frustrating efforts to nab perpetrators of the arson attack by refusing to volunteer information to the police.

Barre who was flanked by the county police commander, Michael Muchiri lamented that efforts to bring to book those who torched seven homes at Kanyibong’ and Agoro Lieye villages was almost hitting a snag as virtually everybody in the village feigns ignorance. Addressing the security baraza at the Karemo divisional headquarters, the county commissioner told the residents that the government will not entertain anybody who shields a criminal from facing the law.
