Athlete, Kisorio points finger at locals

Mathew Kisorio, an athlete once suspended for a doping offence, has called for the arrest of medical doctors and chemists involved in injecting athletes with steroids.

Kisorio, who was suspended for two years, a ban which has since elapsed, was speaking in Eldoret as 18 athletes managed by the Rosa Associati Ltd came out to absolve their management over doping claims.

According to Kisorio, he gave out the names of the chemist and doctor who aided him in the doping that led to his suspension.

However, he complained that Athletics Kenya had been lackadaisical on the handling of the matter.

“Personally I doped but I was assisted by a doctor. I gave out all the details to AK on how I doped but upto now they have done nothing. They know the truth,” Kisorio said.

“I worked with Rosa Associati from 2007 to 2012. What I did was my own personal decision,” he added.

Kisorio, who is not currently under the Associati management added: “I support the investigation but how it is being handled is worrying. A point is being missed. It appears the investigation is headed in the opposite direction,” Kisorio said.

Meanwhile three-time world 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop feels the current developments may derail their preparations for the Olympic Games.

“They should help in finding the truth. We feel what has happened will discourage us from preparing properly for the Olympics,” Kiprop said.

“They should arrest those involved who include well known local doctors and notorious chemists. They have the information,” he added.

The Rosa Associati management has six athletes in the Team Kenya to the Rio Olympic Games. It includes Kiprop, London Marathon winner Jemimah Sumgong, London Marathon runner-up Stanley Biwott, two-time world 10,000m bronze medallist Paul Tanui, world cross country silver medallist Bedan Karoki and Paris Marathon winner Visiline Jepkesho.
