An attempt to traffic 1.15kg of methamphetamine through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been thwarted.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the concealed parcel, which was hidden within a larger consignment was discovered at the FedEx Express warehouse
“Attempts by a suspect to traffic 1.15kg of methamphetamine through the Jomo Kenyatta Intn’l Airport have proved futile after the concealed parcel stuffed in a bigger consignment was discovered at the FedEx Express warehouse,” stated the DCI.
The operation resulted in the seizure of the illicit drug, which is estimated to have a street value of Ksh. 9.2 million.
The significant confiscation of the drug followed a tip-off to the Anti-Narcotics detectives based at JKIA.
Acting promptly upon receiving the information, the detectives searched the Mitchell Cott Shed warehouse, which resulted in the discovery of the concealed contraband.
“The seizure of the Sh9.2 million drug in street estimates followed a tip-off to Anti-Narcotics detectives based at JKIA yesterday, prompting a search within the warehouse at the Mitchell Cott Shed,” said the DCI.
The DCI has so far launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator responsible for the attempted trafficking and to ascertain the intended destination of the drug.
The interception of such a significant quantity of methamphetamine underscores the dedication and vigilance of law enforcement personnel who are committed to curbing the illegal drug trade as well as the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and the public in trying to fight against drug trafficking.
