Authorities Impound Bhang Worth Ksh 0.6 Million, Arrest Suspect.

Authorities in Laikipia County have impounded cannabis (bhang) worth Ksh 600,000 street value and arrested the suspected dealer.

Laikipia county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri speaking to the press on Thursday revealed they arrested the suspect, identified as Kelvin Macharia  Ngathia, through a sting operation which later led the police officers to his rented house in Muthaiga Estate, where the narcotics were hidden.

Kanyiri said the suspect who was being held at Nanyuki police station would face charges at the court of law aimed at punishing those who are peddling drugs in the county.

The county administrator pointed out the major crackdown on drugs and illicit brews in the region was being carried out through a Multi-agency approach targeting to weed out all rogue individuals involved in illegal business rings.

The county commissioner regretted that the use of narcotics among the young people had ruined their lives in the Mount Kenya region, and they became irresponsible after consuming the outlawed drugs.

He noted the government would only relent once sobriety was restored and those involved punished severely.

At the same time, Kanyiri said they were regulating bar and liquor business ownership in the county to tame widespread alcohol use.

He advised those involved in illegal drug-selling businesses to find alternative ways of livelihood before the law caught up with them.
