Police in Garissa have confiscated 88 bags of suspected contraband sugar being transported along the Modika-Modogashe road, following a high-speed pursuit involving two vehicles by the Border Police patrol unit.
During a nighttime mobile patrol, officers identified two suspicious Toyota Probox vehicles in the Nuno area.
Upon approaching the vehicles for inquiry, the drivers attempted to flee by accelerating their engines but were subsequently apprehended.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), a search of the vehicles revealed 88 bags of sugar, each branded SAHA and weighing 25 kilograms. Both the sugar and the vehicles registered as KDP 613D and KDN 745J, have been secured pending verification by a multi-agency task force.
