BARINGO : FARMERS DECRY DELAYED PAYMENTS

Maize Farmers in Marigat, Baringo South are decrying delayed payments for seedlings supplied to Monsanto Seed company.

The farmers said they supplied over 1.2 kilograms of different variety amounting to 24 Million shillings which have not been paid for the past six months.

Through Marigat Farmers Co-operative Society Ltd Chair Nicholas Bowen they said the farmers raised an invoice of Ksh 24.8 Million for quantities delivered of DK 777 varieties and have written letters concerning the payments without any replies.

Bowen said the farmers are lamenting adverse effects of Covid-19 which has affected them since farming was their only livelihood adding that schools are reopening next week and they have nothing to send their kids back to school.

The farmers who met with Baringo South leadership led by area MP Charles Kamuren urged the company to fasttrack the payments immediately.

Efforts to reach the Monsanto company over the allegations proved futile as phones went unanswered.
