BARINGO RESIDENT TAKES WATER CS TO COURT OVER ILLEGAL APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS

A Baringo  resident wants the board members of Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency disbanded over illegal appointment by Water Cabinet Secretary Cecily Kariuki.
Through his lawyer Vincent Kemboi, Laban Rotich faulted CS Kariuki for disbanding Rift Valley Water works Development agency in 2019. The application further indicates that the ministry further split the agency into North Rift and Central Rift which consist of Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Laikipia and Nyandarua.
Kabarnet High Court Judge Justice Justus Bwonwonga issued the orders yesterday that the water CS and Central Rift Valley Water Works Agency and five members from the water board to respond to the application filed by Laban Rotich a business man in Baringo after he went to court, requesting the court to disband the Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency board stating that the process was illegal.
In his suit Rotich sued Central Rift Valley Water works agency, Stephen Kihiu, Franciscah Kamuren, Rona Koiwa, David Kamau, Nderitu Mathenge and Eng Hosea Wendot the CEO of the said board.
According to Rotich, on his application, Kihiu, Kamuren, Koiwa, Kamau and Mathenge are supposed to serve under the board for three years which he termed as illegal.
The application further states that Ms Kamuren was a member of Rift Valley Water Service Board and appointing her as a board member representing Baringo residents was unfair to the residents, given that she was a resident of Nakuru.
Rotich’s counsel was ready to proceed with the matter but the counsel representing the CS and the other respondents were not ready and pleaded the court to allow them thirty more days to respond.
The case will be mentioned on March 25.
