BET Awards Highlights

The 2019 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards went down Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, broadcasting live globally on BET, MTV and VH1.

They were hosted by actress Regina Hall. Presenters included Taraji P. Henson, Yara Shahidi and Morris Chestnut, with live performances from DJ Khaled, Migos, Lil Baby, Lucky Daye, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, among others.

Beyoncé won the Best Female R&B/pop artist with Bruno Mars winning in the male category.

Migos won the Best Group, while the Best Collaboration went to Travis Scott and Drake for their song “Sicko Mode”.

Best Female and Male Hip Hop artist went to Cardi B and Nipsey Hussle respectively.

Nigerian Burna Boy won the Best International Act, while South African Sho Madjozi won the Best New International Act.

Childish Gambino won the Video of the Year for “This Is America”. The Album of the Year went to Cardi B for “Invasion of Privacy”

Best Gospel/Inspirational went to Snoop Dogg and Rance Allen for “Blessing Me Again”.

BlacKkKlansman won Best Movie, while Best Actress and Actor went to Regina King and Michael B. Jordan respectively.

Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year went to Stephen Curry and Serena Williams.

The Ultimate Icon Award was presented to Tyler Perry, who delivered a powerful speech, highlighting the motivations behind building his entertainment empire. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Mary J. Blige, after which she performed a medley of her greatest hits.
