Bungoma woman rep to uplift women, fight teen pregnancy, improve education

Bungoma woman representative-elect Catherine Wambilianga (Ford Kenya) has pledged to fight rampant teen pregnancy in her first year in office. She spoke to journalists on Sunday after attending mass at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Webuye town.

Rampant teen pregnancy should be declared a county disaster, as it is on the increase especially in Mt Elgon and Bumula, Wambilianga said. Wambilianga said most of the children are sired by teachers, fathers, brothers, relatives, politicians, boda boda operators, security agents and even pastors.

They get away scot free, but the girls suffer as many drop out of school or are forced into early marriage, she said.

“I will work with the county and national Education ministers to ensure the education standards of our girls improves,” Wambilianga said.
