Busia police officers found themselves on the trail of two suspected drug traffickers who narrowly escaped arrest yesterday.
The suspects left behind seven sacks of refined bhang valued at over Sh13 million in the streets.
The law enforcement officers came across a stash of narcotics during their early morning patrol at Ratike area along the Busia-Kisumu road.
It’s presumed that the seven sacks of cannabis were left behind by its owners after catching sight of the police.
“While on routine beat and patrol duties in the wee hours of the day at Ratike area along the Busia-Kisumu road, the police officers stumbled upon the haul of narcotics beside the road, supposedly abandoned when its owners sighted the law enforcers,” said the DCI.
The abandoned haul, weighing approximately 451kg, immediately raised alarm among the police, prompting them to thoroughly search the vicinity.
The police in their search discovered disturbed vegetation nearby, indicating the presence of individuals monitoring the officers’ activities hoping to grab and flee with the cargo should they get a chance.
“A quick look around nearby thickets revealed a disturbed vegetation cover, evidencing the presence of hoodlums monitoring police activities, hoping to grab and flee with the cargo should they get a chance,” added the DCI.
The 451kg of cannabis was secured and promptly transported and booked at Busia Police Station.
With the substantial exhibit now under their control, the officers are unwavering in their commitment to track down the daring miscreants.
Two weeks ago detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Busia County arrested two suspected drug traffickers Ferdinand Wanjero, 29, and Daniel Juma Mwadimwa, 26, and seized three bales of bhang stashed in backpacks worth ksh360000 after a tip-off from members of the public.
