Students at Xavier University in Ohio are experiencing the country’s first ever Pizza ATM.
Designed and built by the European company, Paline, Pizza ATM can deliver a fresh pie within 3 minutes of ordering. So now, instead of withdrawing cash, this ATM delivers freshly-made, baked pizza pies. The machine is expected to cost at least $55,000 according to reports. It will hold 70 pizzas at a time.
The pizzas, made by dining staff at the university, will be moved from a refrigerator to a convection oven, cooked at 475 degrees, placed in a cardboard box, and ejected through a slot in the machine within three minutes of ordering, according to the Journal-News.
Each medium-sized pizza costs $9 to $10, depending on toppings. Payment is by a student card or credit card. The dining hall staff has undergone “40 hours of training each from a French chef,” says the Cincinnati Business Courier.
The ATM is installed in the Fenwick Place residence and will be open to the public until 8 p.m., when the doors are locked. The machine is expected to start operating this week. Officials expect to sell around 300 pizzas a day.
