Nyando ODM supporters took to the streets on Wednesday, accusing the party of giving the nominations certificate to a loser. They claimed the party shortchanged Jared Okello, just as the IEBC was clearing candidates, and gave the certificate to Jared Sala.
The demonstrators burned tyres and blocked roads saying ODM should not impose leaders on them. POlice later dispersed them. After the nominations, Okello’s competitors, including Sala, Joseph Ogendo and Willis Orowe, went to court to contest his win. Last Monday, High Court judge George Odunga directed ODM to tabulate the results in 72 hrs.
“During this period, the party was silent but on Tuesday night we got information that the certificate had been taken away from Okello and given to Sala. We cannot accept this,” said one of the residents.
When The Star contacted Okello, he said the certificate was taken away from him and given to Sala. The politician said he will consult the party on the matter.
