Chelsea strengthened their grip at the summit of the English Premier League table standing with a point against Liverpool that saw their point’s gap lead widen to nine points. This was boosted by a 0-0 draw played by second placed Totten ham hotspurs and third placed arsenals loss to Watford.

Simon Mignolet denied Chelsea the win after saving Diego Costas late penalty. The league leaders had gone ahead with a 24th minute David Luiz superb free kick that caught Mignolet off guard.
Georginio Wijnaldum’s close-range header 11 minutes after the break gave Liverpool ended a run of three successive home losses, two of which knocked them out of the Efl Cup and the Fa Cup.
Chelsea squandered an opportunity to bagged all the three points after costa went to ground under challenge from Joel Matip 14 minutes from the end. Referee mark Clattenburg pointed to the spot but Mignolet dived low to his right to save the Spain striker’s spot-kick.
On the other hand third placed arsenal suffered a shocking home defeat after going down 2-1 to Watford. Younes Kaboul lashed in the opener within 10 minutes for Watford with a shot from outside the area which deflected off Aaron Ramsey. Just two minutes and 57 seconds later, the visitors doubled their lead as troy Denney tapped in the rebound after Etienne Capone’s fine run ended with his shot being saved by Petr cech.
Alex Iwobi pulled a consolation for arsenal after connecting with Alexis Sanchez’s cross. In the other matches Totten ham was held to a barren draw by Sunderland, Swansea wining 2-1 against Southampton and Burnley beating defending champions Leicester city by a solitary goal.
