Chiefs, NGO donate to Athi River fire victims

A chief and his three assistants have donated relilef assistance to 200 fire victims left homeless in Kinanie, Athi River, on September 2. Students and support staff of Daystar University, Athi River Campus, were left out in the cold after their hostel was razed.

Athi River assistant county commissioner James Nyengenye, Doors of Hope programmes manager Jacqueline Shibalira and the four administrators donated foodstuffs, clothing, shoes and bags to the fire victims yesterday.

Nyengenye said he mobilised the chiefs willing to make donations.

Kinanie location chief Josphat Musinga, his assistants Benson Musyoka (Mathatani), Daniel Kitonyi (Kinanie) and Anastasia Musau (Kwa Mboo) responded.

The NGO donated clothing, shoes, bags and maize flour. She urged locals to accommodate the victims and their families temporarily as they seek a long-term solution.
