Chinese Ambassador Haiyan Holds Talks with Kenya’s Police IG Kanja on Bilateral Security Cooperation

On February 11, 2025, the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Guo Haiyan, paid a courtesy call to Mr. Douglas Kanja, the Inspector General of the National Police Service, at the NPS Headquarters located in Jogoo House “A,” Nairobi.

The National Police Service reported that the leaders engaged in discussions covering a broad spectrum of topics related to bilateral and operational collaboration initiatives between Kenya and China.

According to NPS these include law enforcement training and capacity building, as well as security cooperation through INTERPOL.

“Ambassador Haiyan expressed her gratitude to National Police Service for the sustained collaboration, assuring the Inspector General of China’s continued support,” NPS said on an X post.

“The Inspector General, on his part, appreciated the good and cordial relationship between the Kenyan and Chinese security services, which has facilitated numerous capacity-building initiatives and exchanges over the last decade,” NPS added.

The Inspector General also recognized the assistance provided by the Chinese Government to the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) and conveyed his expectation for continued collaboration and partnership.

During the visit, the attendees included Ambassador Jane Makori, the Head of the Asian Desk at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mathew Kutoh, AIG, who serves as the Principal Assistant to the Inspector General, and Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, the spokesperson for the National Police Service.
