Chief justice David Maraga presided over the swearing in of national gender and equity commissioners at the Supreme Court in Nairobi. The national gender equity commission was established as a successor to the Kenya national human rights and equality commission.

Among those sworn in were the chairperson Joyce Mwikali Mutinda, who replaces Winfred Lichuma, vice chairperson Dr. Muriithi Chomba and former Nyeri Women Representative Pricilla Nyokabi as a commissioner.

The new commissioners will oversee the mandates of the commission which include reduction of gender inequalities and the discrimination against all; women, men, persons with disabilities, the youth, children, the elderly, minorities and marginalized communities.
