An 11-year-old boy who is also a class five pupil at Kisayani primary school in Kitui County is nursing his broken left hand at home after facing a ruthless beating from one of his teachers. The incident happened at school on 22nd February 2021.
While narrating the sad events of that fateful day, Joshua Douglas Mutua claimed that his teacher assaulted him for touching her car. When Mrs. Priscilla Oirere heard the car alarm ring, she summoned the boy at her office and caned him until he broke his left hand.
Worse enough, she dismissed the boy without first-aid care or taking him to the hospital. In the evening, Joshua’s mother discovered her son’s swollen hand. Upon asking him, he narrated the sad ordeal he encountered while at school. She immediately rushed him to Kitui County referral hospital where doctors discovered that the boy had suffered a nasty bone fracture.
Later, the mother, Grace Douglas, reported the matter at Nzambani police station and also at the local TSC authorities including Nzambani TSC Sub-County office and the TSC County director. However, justice has not been served since then.
According to Grace, the police have been reluctant to arrest the said teacher and on the other side, TSC authorities haven’t taken any disciplinary action against Mrs Priscilla Oirere. Grace now calls upon the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha to intervene and ensure her son gets justice.
Our efforts to reach Mrs Priscilla Oirere for a comment have proved futile, she declined to pick or return calls and messages.
