Former Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi has called on the national government to prioritize in cleaning the Athi River.
Athi River which has been reported to be used as a waste disposal point by investors will be used to serve the Thwake multi-purpose dam.
The auditor general has noted that the Thwake Dam may turn out to be just another sewerage point.
The auditor’s report raised alarm that the water collected at Thwake Dam may not be good for human consumption.
The former MP has reiterated that when they were in parliament, they did a comprehensive report on the cleaning of Athi River.
“I am calling on the government to implement the report we did when in parliament, we made a very comprehensive report on cleaning the Athi River, I wonder when the Auditor General raises alarm that we are constructing an extension Ruai sewer at Thwake,” Mwangangi narrated.
Welcoming the president to Ukambani in his slated tour, Mwangangi has called on the government to prioritize cleaning of the river.
He has also called on the government to put in place strong and sustainable measures that will completely stop discharging of waste in the river.
