Police in Embu have impounded more than 1500 crates of suspected counterfeit beer under the name of Gold in a store camouflaged as a dairy store and cooling plant at Kianjokoma Market within the border of Embu East and Embu North Sub counties of Embu County.
Embu County Commissioner Jack Obuor noted that they suspect the beer had been transported from another County adding that a multi-agency team is on high alert.
Obuor further said that the consignment was suspicious since the owner had not shown up and escaped.
Embu County Police Commander Nicholas Maina said a multi-agency team will conduct a verification exercise to ascertain if the beer meets the standard adding that police are looking for the store’s owner as one person was arrested at the premises.
He said other people who were in the store escaped when police officers arrived following a tip-off from members of the public.
A joint verification exercise between NPS, Anti-counterfeit, KRA and NACADA will be carried out on the consignment valued at more than sh 5milion.
