COVID-19 PROVING A THREAT TO ONGOING KCSE EXAMS

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has identified the third wave of Covid-19 as the biggest challenge currently facing the ongoing KCSE examinations across the country. The Council was however quick to note that it had placed all the necessary health measures in place to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

On Friday, the government closed down all learning institutions in five red counties including Nakuru following a sharp rise in the number of the cases. And while supervising the distribution of exams materials in Naivasha on Monday morning, KNEC national chairman John Onsati said that they were not taking chances. He said that all exam managers had been directed to make sure that all the health standards were followed to the letter.

“We are deeply concerned by the pandemic but we have put in place all the necessary measures to make sure that our students are in safe hands,” he told the press. Onsati at the same time assured the country that the exams were safe adding that no case of cheating or malpractice had been reported in any part of the country. According to him, the council had placed all the necessary security measures in place to make sure that there were no cases of malpractice as has been the norm in the past. “I want to laud the good job done by education and security officers in Naivasha in supervising and distributing the examination materials,” he said.
