Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a stern warning to unqualified and non-compliant medical facilities, announcing that he is ready to release a list of shame that will expose these facilities.
The list will expose facilities that were previously contracted under the former National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and are implicated in fraudulent activities.
He also emphasized the Ministry’s determination to crack down on unqualified medical practitioners.
Duale urged all players in the health sector to operate within the law.
This enforcement, he noted, is essential to the ongoing implementation of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
The CS was speaking during the official launch of a new collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH).
The new partnership will facilitate welfare support through the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Support includes medical cases such as kidney transplants and cardiac surgeries.
“This partnership is a key step in reducing catastrophic health costs, especially for the most vulnerable in our communities,” Hon. Duale said.
This initiative is aimed at improving access to life-saving care for Kenyans in need.
The CS called on all healthcare providers, public, private, and faith-based, to adopt similar models to offer subsidized services for SHA beneficiaries.
He urged healthcare providers to fully implement the SHA Tariff and Benefits Package to ensure affordable and seamless access to critical care.
“No Kenyan should be denied life-saving treatment because of financial limitations,” Duale stated.
The event was hosted by Aga Khan University President, Dr. Sulaiman Shahbuddin, and AKUH CEO Mr. Rashid Khalani.
The Health CS was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Ms. Mary Muthoni, SHA Chairman, Dr. Abdi Mohamed, and other senior officials.
