Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has inaugurated the Independent Investigative Committee on Tissue and Organ Transplant Services.
The ceremony, held at Afya House in Nairobi, follows the issuance of Gazette Notice No. 78 on 23rd April 2025.
The newly established committee, chaired by renowned researcher Prof. Elizabeth Bukusi, will probe allegations of malpractice and ethical breaches in organ transplant procedures particularly at Mediheal Group of Hospitals.

The formation of this committee responds to growing public concern and aims to ensure accountability and transparency in the country’s healthcare sector.
He further emphasized the committee’s mandate to operate with integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
“This is a moment of reckoning. We are not just conducting an investigation we are restoring public trust in the health system. We will not tolerate impunity or protect any wrongdoing,” said Hon. Duale,
Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga called on the committee to conduct a fair and evidence-based inquiry.
“Your findings should serve as a catalyst to streamline clinical workflows and reinforce best practices across all health facilities in the country,” he said.
The committee is expected to deliver a comprehensive report by 22nd July 2025, after which the Ministry has pledged to act decisively and transparently in the best interest of the Kenyan public.
“We will act decisively, transparently, and in the best interest of the people of Kenya,” he added.
Also present were PS for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, and the Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, both of whom reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering support for the committee’s work.
