CS Joho Tapped as UNOC 3 VP, Set to Champion Kenyan, African Ocean Interests

Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho has been elected Vice President of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3), which commenced in Nice, France, positioning Kenya and Africa to significantly influence global ocean conservation efforts.

“Being elected as the Vice President of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) which kicked off today in Nice, France, inspires me as it places us in a pivotal position to advance the interests of Kenya and Africa on the global stage,” stated CS Ali Hassan Joho.

As Vice-President of (UNOC 3) esteemed global organization, CS Ali Hassan Joho will have the opportunity to advocate for Kenya’s interests and deliver interventions on behalf of specific groups, including the African Group, at the 3rd Ocean Action. He will also represent the African continent at High-Level events related to the conference.

The overarching theme of the Conference was “Accelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean”.

The Conference, comprising an opening segment, ten plenary sessions, ten Ocean Action Panels and a closing segment, aimed to support further and urgent action to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development and identify further ways and means to support the implementation of SDG 14.

CS Ali Hassan Joho is optimistic that this role will significantly elevate Kenya’s profile in matters of ocean conservation.

CS Joho’s Vice Presidency at UNOC 3 provides an unparalleled platform to advance Kenya’s and Africa’s critical ocean priorities on the global stage.
