The Cabinet Secretary nominee for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen has publicly apologised to the people of Kenya for his conduct and previous utterances he made a few months ago before President Ruto’s Cabinet dismissal.
On Wednesday afternoon 24th July 2024 when President Ruto named his second batch of the Cabinet nominees after his dismissal two weeks ago Murkomen was lucky to make a comeback to the Cabinet on a different docket after serving as CS for Roads and Transport for the last two years.
After his nomination by the President to the Youth Affairs and Sports docket, Hon. Murkomen expressed regrets for his past conduct and utterances that angered the young people.
During the anti-government protest in the last five weeks, Gen Z complained about Murkomen as one of the arrogant public officers who displayed opulence that they believed to be the proceeds of corruption.
In a statement he wrote on X after his nomination Mr. Murkomen asked forgiveness from Kenyans and promised to improve on his duties upon approval by the National Assembly.
He admitted his mistakes and apologized to Kenyans who felt offended by his conduct in the past two years for displaying a very expensive lifestyle when ordinary Kenyans were struggling with hard economic times.
“The last two weeks have been moments of deep reflection. I would like to unreservedly apologise to every Kenyan who I may have offended through my words, my deeds and my conduct, including my lifestyle, in the last two years of my public service,” Murkomen wrote on X.
He promised to serve the people of Kenya diligently, with great humility and unwavering accountability.
Former CS for Roads and Transport further thanked the President for the chance granted once again to serve in the Cabinet although in a different Ministry replacing Hon. Ababu Namwamba in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
“Honoured and grateful to have been nominated by President Ruto, as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports,” he said.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation, Kenya,” he added.
Just after the dismissal of the Cabinet three weeks ago, Gen Z on social media platforms appeared to be angered by the nominee for displaying very expensive attire he owns.
During the media interview, Hon. Murkomen said to own a watch worth Ksh. 900,000, a shoe worth Ksh. 80, 000, a belt worth Ksh. 50, 000 and a tie worth Ksh. 20, 000 which amounts to almost over 1 million Kenyan shillings.
