Daniel Sturridge ended his goal drought by scoring twice on his return to the starting line-up as Liverpool booked their place in the last eight of the EFL Cup.
Sturridge gave the Reds an early lead when he was in the right place at the right time to convert after Marko Grujic ‘s shot was deflected into his path.
The England striker doubled their lead just after the hour mark when he latched on to Gini Wijnaldum’s pass to slot under Michel Vorm.
Spurs striker Vincent Janssen pulled one back from the penalty spot with 15 minutes to go but Liverpool were able to see out the game at Anfield.
Though Liverpool in the last minutes they conceded a penalty, the team contained Spurs pressure to ensure 2-1 win.
Pochettino reflects on the penalty
Pochettino admitted that he was unhappy with the response of Klopp and his coaching staff to the penalty decision as they urged referee Jon Moss to give Liverpool free-kicks in the latter stages of the match.
And the Tottenham manager also believes Reds youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold should have seen red in the first-half for his challenge on Ben Davies.
“I think it was strange that at the end of the game they started to complain,” Pochettino said.
“The full-back Arnold should be sent off in the first-half, I have seen the tackle again on Ben Davies.
“So after that, it was strange when their bench started to complain with our bench. It is the referee’s authority to say if it was a penalty or not. It was strange.
“They complained about a normal game, but maybe yes, they were lucky to finish with eleven on the pitch.”
