Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, in collaboration with their Coast region counterparts, have apprehended three key members of the notorious Mombasa Panga Boys gang.
“Three members of the infamous Mombasa Panga Boys who have been reigning terror on locals around the County have today been rounded up in a security sweep conducted by DCI Headquarters hawkshaws,” stated the DCI.
The group, infamous for terrorizing residents in Kiembeni and Kadzandani, has been linked to a string of violent robberies and muggings.
The suspects, identified as Shaban Munga Ali (26), Sande Kalama Kitsao (24), and Shebani Charo Kalume (34), were arrested during a meticulously planned, intelligence-led operation.
According to the detectives, Munga and Kitsao were captured at Mwatamba 2 stage in Kiembeni, while Kalume was apprehended in Kadzandani, found in possession of a knife and two face masks.
The gang, known for wielding crude weapons such as daggers and machetes, has long instilled fear in the local community, targeting business premises and unsuspecting pedestrians.
“Armed with crude weapons including daggers and machetes, the gang operates with impunity mostly within Kiembeni and Kadzandani areas, staging robberies at business premises and muggings on lone pedestrians,” stated the DCI.
Their capture marks a critical step in restoring peace and security in the area.Currently, the suspects are undergoing interrogation at DCI facilities, with plans to present them in court soon.
The operation remains ongoing as law enforcement intensifies efforts to dismantle the gang and ensure the safety of Mombasa residents.
