Private developers who have encroached the new access roads under construction have been ordered to start pulling down their buildings pending the construction of over 10 Kilometres access roads in Thika. The access roads will pass through Umoja estate to Makongeni police station, Broadways bakery – slaughter house road and BAT towards Thika river bridge which is already complete.

Thika member of Parliament Patrick Wainaina however has asked KERA to start marking the buildings that has encroached the roads so as to prepare the owners to start demolishing them for themselves.

The MP who was accompanied by KURA officials led by Engineer Jecintah Mwangi who is the Director KURA central region said that the project was gearedin increasing the road network for people to access amenities like, markets, hospitals and schools among others as well as creating an enabling trading environment in the first largest town of Kiambu county.

Wainaina further said that the opening of the access roads was part of Jubilee government’s agenda 4 plan of improving the infrastructure in the country. The Thika legislature also said this would decongest Thika town and the busy Thika-Garrisa highway and create amble space for disembarking and picking up of passengers that would lead to reduction of road accidents witnessed before.

KURA director Jacinta Mwangi said the encroachment of the access roads has derailed the project which ought to have been completed by now. However, she said that their co-operation with the MP, Kiambu county Commissioner and the area residents had borne fruit and the project is set to continue.
