Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called the Director General for National Intelligence Service (NIS) Noordin Haji to resign from office for failing to advice the President appropriately.

“I sympathise with President Ruto because this information was not available to him. NIS is mandated to provide such information and that is where the problem is; we have a dysfunctional NIS that has exposed the President, the government and the people of Kenya,” stated the Deputy President.

While speaking during a press briefing in Mombasa on Wednesday evening, Deputy President said that since 2023 when Noordin Haji took over the office from his predecessor, the National Intelligence Service has been dysfunctional.

He blamed the National Intelligence Service for its failure to get facts from the people of Kenya on what they felt about the proposed Finance Bill 2024.

“Noordin Haji must take responsibility for the deaths that have occurred, the mayhem witnessed and for failing President Ruto, the government and Kenya by not doing his job and advising correctly. He must not just take responsibility but resign from that office and allow the president to pick a competent Director General,” Gachagua said in his statement.

“People had to die, property destroyed and protests for the President to know what Kenyans felt, yet there is an organization funded by Kenyans to brief the president and the public about the sentiments and concerns of the people of Kenya,” he added.

“Officers from the National Police Service have told me in confidence that they did not receive advance intelligence briefs about the magnitude of the protests,” the DP added.

According to the Deputy President Noordin Haji should resign immediately from office of DG National Intelligence Service for he is unqualified for the position.

He further claimed that the NIS is dysfunctional citing that upon taking over the position from Major General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru in June 2023, Noordin Haji with an inferiority complex chased away senior officers who were much experienced more than him, hence crippling National Intelligence Service.
