The ongoing trial of Okoth Obado, the former Governor of Migori County, along with two other defendants, for the murder of Sharon Otieno, proceeded on Tuesday, 7 May 2024 at the Milimani High Court.
The former county official and his fellow defendant stood in front of Justice Cecilia Githua, where a prosecution witness linked to a Cyber Crime Investigations sub-unit within Serious Crime revealed to the court that DNA test results showed a 99.99% likelihood that Obado was the biological father of Sharon Otieno’s unborn child.
“The witness further told the court that DNA test results revealed that there was a 99.99% that Okoth Obado was the father of Sharon Otieno’s unborn child,” read a statement on the ODPP X page.
The witness also showed the court photographic exhibits from the scene of the alleged murder.
He further stated that the investigations and interrogations of Okoth Obado and his former personal assistant Michael Oyamo revealed that both individuals were well known to the deceased.
According to the witness, the deceased was seven months pregnant and succumbed to a severe hemorrhage caused by force trauma from a sharp object.
Additionally, signs of strangulation were observed after a postpartum was conducted on both Sharon and her unborn child.
“He also confirmed to the court that after the Post Mortem of both Sharon and her unborn child, the doctor formed the opinion that Sharon was 7 months pregnant and that the cause of death was severe hemorrhage due to a sharp object force trauma, and that there were features of strangulation, while that of the unborn child was due to abdominal trauma caused by a sharp object,” said the ODPP.
Caspal Obiero the 3rd accused was further implicated in the murder case as it was revealed that he had hired a Toyota Fielder, which was used by the perpetrator to meet the victim.
The trial was set to continue on Wednesday.
