Donkey slaughter business

Sh300 Million has been approved by the Government for establishment of a donkey slaughterhouse at Chemongoch in Baringo County.

Willy Bett ,the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary allowed the opening of the facility declaring it as an export slaughterhouse, which is in the last step before licensing.

Goldox Donkey Abattoir, has a capacity to slaughter 100 donkeys a day with the meat set to be exported to China where the demand is reportedly high.

Two Chinese nationals Lu Jing and Lu Donglin are behind the project which after starting operations will create a new source of income for farmers who will be supplying the slaughterhouse with the animals.

Goldox Donkey Abattoir will be the second of its kind in Kenya after a multi million donkey slaughterhouse was opened in Maraigushu village in Naivasha, Nakuru County in 2015.

The Nakuru County government gave the go ahead for the slaughterhouse to start operations in an effort to regulate the business and curb donkey theft in the area.
