DON’T USE ELECTIONS AS TOOL OF VIOLENCE, NCIC TELLS KENYANS, AS COUNTY COMMISSIONER DEMYSTIFY REPORTS THAT KERICHO IS A HOT SPOT.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has said that the general elections should not be used a tool for violence between communities.

NCIC deputy director Gillian Nyambu said challenges which are coming up between communities should be addressed to stop any potential violence.

NCIC has been holding different meetings in Kericho and Kisumu Counties to sensitize stakeholders on peace as the country heads to the general elections.

Speaking to the press in Kericho town during an NCIC meeting, Kericho County Commissioner Kamau Karungo demystified reports that the county is among the listed hot spots as the country heads to the next general elections.

Karungo said though Kericho is among the counties listed by NCIC as among the hotspots, it doesn’t mean the neighboring communities are against each other and can break into violence.

He however said measures should be taken to evade any potential violence.

The county commissioner was speaking after a meeting led by NCIC with stakeholders from the tea estates, business community, and council of elders.
