The national government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the success of devolution for the benefit of all Kenyans across the 47 counties.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the 9th Devolution Conference, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki reiterated government’s commitment in strengthening devolution.
“As we bring this year’s Devolution Conference to a close, I reaffirm the national government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the devolved system of governance. Devolution remains our most effective instrument for promoting inclusion, equity and shared prosperity,” stated DP Kindiki.
The second in command also emphasized the pivotal role of the youths in the country noting that the destiny of the nation and indeed of Africa, rests in their hands.
Additionally, he called for greater support and inclusion of young people asserting that Kenya’s socio-economic transformation lies squarely in their involvement.
“There is a need for deeper engagement with the youth and I commend this conference for its dedicated focus on youth dialogue. This sets the stage for what should become regular sessions to validate, refine and provide input into government programmes and initiatives,” he noted.
On partnerships for development, Prof. Kindiki underlined the need to strengthen public–private collaboration, describing it as a crucial driver of Kenya’s growth in the 21st century.
He also confronted the issue of corruption, acknowledging that it had infiltrated all arms of government as well as the private sector. He urged bold and decisive action to dismantle corrupt networks and restore integrity in public service.
He further commended the National Treasury for maintaining consistent disbursements to county governments despite prevailing fiscal challenges.
He revealed that by the end of June 2025, 100% of the equitable share for the 2024/2025 financial year had been disbursed to counties.
